Stung Treng
Stung Treng is located in Stung Treng Province, Cambodia. Stung Treng is located on a high sandy bank overlooking the Mekong River, where it is joined by the Se Kong river. It is about 300km from Phnom Penh and 40 km south of the Laos border, and is the major city (and capital) of both the district and province and has a population of about 25,000 or about 30 percent of the population.
This population is made up of a mix of Khmer, Lao peoples. The city is served by Stung Treng Airport, but currently there are no regular commercial services. Stung Treng is a northern province of Cambodia. Formerly called Xieng Teng, it was a part of the Khmer Empire, then the Lao kingdom of Lan Xang and later the Lao kingdom of Champassack. It was ceded to Cambodia again during the period of French Indochina.
