Shenyang
Shenyang is one of China’s ten largest cities and the capital city of Liaoning province. It is the industrial center and transportation hub for Northeast China.
It occupies a land area of 12,980 square kilometers (4992 square miles), with 3495 square kilometers (1344 square miles) of urban area.
Shenyang has nine districts (5 urban and 4 suburban) and four counties. The total population in Shenyang is about 7.4 million in the city and adjoining districts (2006); about 66 percent of its population is urban.
Shenyang is also the largest political, economic, cultural and transportation center of Northeast China. Its highway network connects with all other 13 municipalities in the province. The city is planning to build its own subway system.
