Hangzhou
Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, is one of the most important industrial centers in China.
It has an area of 16,596 square km, and a population of 5.82million. Hangzhou is one of the China’s oldest cities, as it was the capital of the states of Wu and Yue during the Spring and Autumn period (722-481 BC), and the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279 AD).
Hangzhou is bounded to the south by the Qiantang River and to the west by hills. The land surface descends from south-west to northeast. The northeastern part, including the urban area is flat. It has a subtropical monsoon climate with an annual average temperature of 16.3C,and 250 frost-free days.
Annual rainfall averages 1,500 millimeters. Hangzhou is rich in mineral deposits. Up to now 34 kinds ores have been discovered, most of which are nonmetallic ores.
